📸 Snapshot

It's been awhile since I last took photos with my DSLR...at least a year and I still haven't published the majority of photos I took in the last four years. I know I'll sit on these photos for another century if I don't post now while I'm fall cleaning my neglected blog. 😓

Although I don't spend 10,000 hours on photography, which I probably should if I want to improve on a technical level, pointing and shooting on auto has afforded me a lot of joy in just capturing the subject itself and giving me a space to connect with the people in my view finder. I realized the two types of subjects that I naturally gravitate towards are more of a reflection of what I enjoy in life.

1. Taking photos of people I know

This has given me an opportunity to spend quality time with my friends. Although being photographed can be a very vulnerable experience, the moment both parties are comfortable and progress photos give the subject more confidence, there's such a fulfilling satisfaction to be able to articulate visually -- beauty in the eye of the beholder.

2. Taking photos of strangers (in hopefully a non-creepy way)

I really like photographing old people and kids. Both are at a stage in life where they don't care how they look to others. They're comfortable in their own skin. One has wisdom of age and knows to not take life so seriously and just enjoy life. The other one is naïve so can enjoy life fully without reservations. I find myself in the middle stage of life, prone to taking life to seriously, so these are precious reminders to myself to enjoy life in all the little moments.

A few notable favorites between 2016-2019 (in no particular order):
